Stanton St John lies in south central England, roughly 55 miles (90Km) northwest of London, 55 miles (90 Km) southeast of Birmingham and 80 miles (130 km) north of the English Channel ports of Portsmouth and Southampton.
The village is 5 miles (8 km) from the centre of Oxford in the 'green belt' area surrounding the city and about 4 km south of an an area of low lying land called Otmoor, which is being encouraged to re-flood, as it used to centuries ago, to produce one of Britain's larges inland bird santuaries. Stanton's main facilities include a; church, hall, Holford Centre, shop, and two inns; 'The Star' and the 'Talk House' and a cricket ground. It also has many varied local orgaisations and activities to enhance community life. Oxford, the county capital of Oxfordshire, is a picturesque historic city with two universities; Oxford University, founded in the eleventh century, and Brookes University founded in the late twentieth century.

Above : Details of Stanton St John and the roads to it from Islip (off this map to the NW), Forest Hill (partly on the map to the SE) and Oxford's area Barton (near the Green Road Roundabout, just off the map to the SW).
Above : Details of the road (Bayswater Road) towards Stanton St John from the Green Road Roundabout on the Oxford Ring Road at Headington. And finally below a general view of the village from the south, courtesy of The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust. The B4027 runs diagonally from bottom right to top left of the picture. The village of Forest Hill is just of the bottom right corner and the narrow, winding road via 'Shepherd's Pit' towards Barton and the ring road roundabout leaves the photograph near the top of the left hand side. Cox Lane appears approximately horizontally just above the centre of the photograph, Stanton House is the large isolated stone building towards the top right of it. The top (high end) of Mill Street appears approximately horizontally a little in front of Stanton House and leaves the photograph about a quarter of the way down from the top of the right hand edge. The cricket ground, with its dark coloured pavillion, is the large green field in the bottom right of the picture.
